At the title screen, press together L1 + R1 + START. The Stage Select screen will show up immediately, before entering to the Power Meter Select.
Stage Select mode is only available after you finished the game once under any of the game levels besides Easy.
Increase Frame Rate in Demo Movie (translated from KONAMI Homepage)
There will be a demo movie after the Konami Logo movie in the opening of the game. The demo movie is normally at 15 frames/sec., but it can be incresed to 30 frames/sec. by pressing the direction keys continuously before the Konami Logo movie appear again.
