Here is a story about Gradius that I had been working on for a while. All I have is the prologue and some "information files" that I had put together as background info for my story. ...
With the "Public Information File", I've incorporated some other Konami games, like Axelay and Contra - I thought it would be neat to do.
PROLOGUE
ONCE MORE, THEY GROW.
At one time, they had been poised to take over the galaxy. Their name was feared by many. Only their eternal enemies, the Gradians, stood in their way. And if it hadn’t been for one pilot, they would have succeeded. But they were defeated.
This pilot, flying the newest version of that damned Gradian fighter, the Vic Viper, had overcome incredible odds and fought his way to the very core of the homeworld, where the heart of the empire was located. Their emperor had put up an incredible fight against the intruder, but his efforts were all for nothing. He was destroyed, and without him to keep the homeworld together, the planet had soon followed.
Upon the homeworld destruction, the remnants of the fleet scattered. They would still exist, but they would never have the strength that they used to. Six hundred years passed.
The remnants of the fleet wandered space, growing more embittered with each passing century. Word had trickled out to them that unknown forces had come out of the unexplored Dark Nebula and almost destroyed the Gradians, but once again, they had survived. Would the Gradians ever be destroyed?
Then they had entered a previously uncharted solar system. Upon exploring the planets of this system, the scoutships made an incredible discovery.
Here was the means to finally have their revenge against the Gradians. The people of Gradius would finally fall, and the empire would be reestablished. Finally, strong again for the first time in centuries, the fleet set a course for the planet Gradius. This time they would not be stopped. And once Gradius was destroyed, the rest of the galaxy would soon kneel before them - or suffer the consequences.
The galaxy would once more dread the name Bacterion.

As you can see above, I took the ILLIS SYSTEM, THE TRALIEB COLONY (ORBITING ILLIS), and THE D-117B AXELAY STRATAFIGHTER (ON ILLIS) from Axelay, and THE HOMEWORLD OF THE ALIEN CONQUEROR RED FALCON (AS YET UNNAMED AND UNCHARTED) from Contra.
I have a couple of other ideas for Gradius related stories - one called AXEIUS, which is the story of how the Armada Of Annihilation from Axelay attacked Gradius and Latis - they grounded the Vic Viper and the Lord British Space Destroyer. Gradius was able to send a message to Illis, who sent the D-117B Axelay Stratafighter out to free Gradius.
My other idea was for G-TYPE, a Gradius meets R-Type story where a Gradian patrol ship finds a wrecked R-9 fighter drifting in space. A message is transmitted from a dead Bydo on board the fighter, and the Bydo war fleet ends up heading for Gradius. The only way the Gradians can stop the Bydo is by using the technology found in the R-9 fighter and equipping the Vic Viper with it.
